What have we done for you lately?

When we launched this blog last month, we said it wouldn’t center on product news. A healthy supply of press releases and product blogs already do that quite well. But a few folks have suggested we dedicate a wee corner to itemize some of the latest and greatest in product happenings. So here’s the deal. Every Friday, we’ll try to collect and summarize the week’s highlights — from news that warrants a press release to the lower-profile things you might still want to know about (tweaks, enhancements, redesigns, etc.). Here’s our first stab at it.

Yahoo! Finance goes to the blogs: We’ve added stock market blog opinions and analysis from Seeking Alpha to sit site-by-side with traditional news.

Fight phishing. Build a seal: Keep your account safe from password thieves by customizing your Yahoo! sign-in page with a secret message, photo, or special colors.

Yahoo! Tech gussies up: Tech’s front page just got bolder, better, clearer. With the updated design you can get to products easier and get a better sense of what’s hot now.

Fantasy Sports does TV: Football widows, cover your ears — stat fanatics can now see their latest league standings, scores, and more on their TV (when connected to a Viiv PC).

    Stash your local stuff:
Yahoo! Local’s new “Collections” feature lets you save and share lists of your favorite local sushi bars, mechanics, wineries, furniture stores, beach towns, etc.

No, not fußball—football!: Live in Neuenkirchen, Reykjavik, or Istanbul? No problem. Yahoo! Sports teamed up with the NFL to let you stream live football games outside the U.S.

More powerful mail for all: The much ballyhooed Yahoo! Mail Beta is now available in 18 markets. That’s a lot of draggin’ and droppin’.

Yahoo! Toolbar + Firefox = faster Search: As you type search terms in our new toolbar for Firefox, you get the most popular keyword suggestions instantaneously.

Yahoo! opens new phone Window: Yahoo! Go, our most advanced software suite for the mobile phone, is now available for Windows Mobile users.

Whaddaya think? If you like it, you can subscribe to a special RSS feed for this Product Pulse category so you don’t miss a Yahoo! beat. Spiffy.

I am most upset by Yahoo’s recent TV spot concerning “fertilizer” and the difference between the product she picked up at the store and the product she learned about on Yahoo. The result of the ad was predictable, but showing how the second product raised the family dog from the dead was a complete VIOLATION OF GOOD TASTE.

I would expect something far better than that from such a successful company as Yahoo.
