BeckTents are set up on the campus lawn. Several hundred pizzas have been consumed. Laptops everywhere have freshly-applied stickers. And our mysterious secret musical guest has been revealed.

Our first annual open Hack Day kicked off with an amazing 90-minute performance by Beck, who recently graced the cover of Wired Magazine for his passion for mashups and remixes. Who better to inspire cleverness and creativity among 500 developers for their all-night journey toward creating the coolest hack? Beck and his band put on quite a show.

To get everyone in the hacking mood, Beck put together this video just for the occasion. It’s too cool not to share.

Right on…Yahoo is where it’s at!

I’m very excited to be a part of such an innovative and fun company. I can’t wait to see what comes out of hack day! Hopefully Y! will publish a hack day gallery so we can check out all the cool hacks. Bring it!

Wow, what a great event. Sorry to have missed it. Yahoo is starting to really rock the new web and deserves a lot of credit for it.

It was a great honor being one of the judges and the energy was fantastic. The hacks were incredible and the beer just kept on flowing…

My favorite quote… “Chad & Brad made sure all were glad… “

The event planning was a hack event all by itself. All-nighters, pizzas, technology mind-benders, runs to loews for supplies…everything except the 1.5 minute presentations. Nice job everyone. woot!

Invited at the last minute by a friend, I always enjoy the ambiance of a live concert. Beck really put it on top. Thanks to them for diverting the night before the Shoreline show to do this. The Puppets are outrageous, what a concept ! (excellent digital short too).

p.s. thanks for the pie and brew !
