Help the blind by getting voice recognition , voice commands and text to speech software on every piece of equipment manufactured as a FEDERAL requirement! It is way over time for this to be made right. Lead the Charge! Just DO It!

Equal access for the disabled , protection under the ADA - Federal LAW yet we are still eons away from achieving the end result. Especially when it comes to the blind and low visioned. Try it for a day - navigate the web or use a computer with out sight! It is incredible the challenges that must be endured and for NO REASON - that this particular group encounters on a constant basis,. We have t eh software and ability yet continue to find companies neglecting to use it top make equipment speakable and enable the voice commands and voice recognition capabilities so the non seeing are given a more level playing field. What is holding us up? Please get the word out and FIX this everyday every moment neglect of our blind population.
Canes and dogs are there yes, but with the tech that is out there now - there is no reason to keep it from those who can use it to improve the quality of life. Is there?

@Joe Hall - Many thanks for your comments with which I completely agree. Certainly the unique experiences and perspectives of individuals with disability are critical to developing programs such as our Accessibility Lab. In fact, Yahoo!'s Senior Program Manager for Accessibility is disabled and was the primary designer of the Lab. He also manages the Lab's very busy day-to-day activities.
Again, thank you for your interest.

This is cool, but I would like to know, do you have a disability? are you seeking the input of those that do? Honestly, these types of exercises have been going on for awhile in various corporations, and despite their well intentions they to often tend to fail because they lack the true understanding of what it means to be disabled, and the only way to reach that level is to hire disabled people. btw, you can find my resume at the link above ;-)
