When Matt Harding sets up his video camera and asks strangers to dance with him, there’s no music. No tempo, no beat. Just his signature jig, a few faint finger snaps, and the sounds in your own head. It makes for a hysterical experience and a wonderfully infectious scene on video.

I know this first hand because Matt came by to dance here at Yahoo!. If you’ve never heard of Matt, go check out wherethehellismatt.com. He traveled to 42 countries in 14 months to make his most recent video, “Dancing 2008,” which has been viewed more than 8.5 million times since he posted it in June. His scenery included a tulip field in the Netherlands, the DMZ in Korea, the “Painted Ladies” in San Francisco, children in Yemen, Bollywood-style dancers in India, bushmen in New Guinea, and free spirits in Paris.

I emailed Matt on a lark, with an invitation to come do a video with Yahoos in Sunnyvale. What you see here is the effect of one incredibly willing Internet phenomenon, as I dragged him hither and yon across our campus to shoot 33 scenes in less than seven hours. This video closed a recent company all-hands meeting — webcast to 14,000 employees worldwide — as a reminder that, in spite of the extraordinary events of last seven months, this is still one helluva great company.

You can download the song “Praan” (Bengali for “life”) at Amazon. It was composed by Garry Schyman and that incredible voice belongs to 17-year-old Palbasha Siddique of Minneapolis.

I’ve plodded along since first learning how to navigate the Internet – and in particular, Yahoo! I’ve been frustrated, angry, confused, and stupified…sometimes tempted to give up and move on. Today I came across this video and after watching it I was left with a different, friendlier view of what all goes into the creation, development, and application of Yahoo! services and features. BRILLIANT idea bringing dancing Matt to the Yahoo campus! This was a great reminder of the “people” side of Yahoo, those who still come to work every day and continue to do their jobs and try to keep positive despite all the drama going on around them. Yeah things are far from ideal, but there are still good things too. To see Sue and Jerry was impressive, and wow! you actually let us see Filo’s heinous messy cube. Real. Makes me like Yahoo more.

do you ever wonder why yahoo will never be on top again? why will yahoo always be trailing google? because google is the #1 best place to work, i mean seriously, who wouldn’t want to work at google? the only reason you people are at yahoo is because google rejected you. look at google’s stock, then look at yahoo’s. The reason why google will always beat yahoo is because google has more talented people, the best students from the best schools will always goto Google, why would they choose Yahoo over google? only because google rejected them.. Aka yahoo is going to become filled with the google-rejects, which is why yahoo will never be able to beat google. Google has the best. Yahoo just has 2nd-rate people, they will always be #2 or #3 if microsoft comes along, they already owned Yahoo msger. Can you give me one good reason why anyone would choose Yahoo over Google?
