See it. Love it. Buzz it.

In February, we introduced Yahoo! Buzz as a new way for you to discover, vote for, and share the content and stories that matter most to you. You also got a say in what stories might be read by millions, with the voting power to potentially get your favorite content on the Yahoo! Front Page.
Today, six months and more than 5 million users later, we’re pleased to share that we’re opening Yahoo! Buzz up so that you can “buzz up” content from any publisher on the Web.
We started with about 100 publishing partners, which quickly grew to more than 400. Sites like Salon.com and GigaOm immediately saw an impact as their traffic soared when content climbed up the list and got selected for Yahoo.com. Now that benefit can come to any site online, making it possible to give as much visibility to extraordinary content from an obscure site as major news stories from big publishers.
What does this mean for you? Anything you find on the Web is now buzzable. Any of the Web’s best current event stories, gossip, photos, videos and more can be submitted and shared on Yahoo! Buzz. You’ve already seen the “Buzz Up” buttons on many of your favorite sites, including New York Times, Us Weekly and BoingBoing. Now, as any site is able to add our button, you’ll have even more places to buzz to your heart’s content. And if you don’t see that button on a Web story you just have to share, you can submit a story right on Yahoo! Buzz. Like always, the more unique and compelling the story, the better chance your story of choice will buzz up to the Yahoo! homepage. Nice!
And for anyone publishing Web content that was not part of our beta testing, today we hope you will join Yahoo! Buzz and let our audience (of more then half a billion people!) buzz up your content, too. Joining is as simple. Just grab code from our Buttons page and paste it into your website or blog.
Thank you for continuing to make Yahoo! the place you start your day to find and share the most popular stories and videos on the Internet. We have more to come for Buzz, so stay tuned. But in the meantime: keep on buzzing!

P.S. Now that you have a Web full of info to buzz, check out the My Buzz Activity page that allows you to keep track of and share what you’ve buzzed up or down, or what you buzzed before anyone else did.

Great announcement, very refreshing for thousands of publishers that really wanted to have their stories buzzed up. The only thing that bothers me is that the carrot of being able to get to Yahoo homepage is too huge for the service to avoid heavy gaming. Hopefully the algorithm you have will keep this under control.

How about a simpler URI scheme for publishers? No JavaScript, please.

It will be interesting to see who can game the system and if they can, how much of googles homepage traffic can they handle. http://specialreport.com/yahoo-buzz-now-open-to-all-bloggers/

Tapan – how come there is no bookmarklet (the fields to submit a story seem pretty close to Ctrl+D pop-up for delicious) or am I missing it?

I’ve been watching Yahoo Buzz since it’s launched and I must say… I’m impressed! Both as a user and as a publisher. I can’t wait to see what else you have in store.

Thanks for this great feature to promote the content of a common blogger. Certainly this is one of the big starting points for the web in coming days. Good work and keep it up.

@Mrinal – Thanks for your suggestion. It’s a good idea that we’ll keep in mind as we work through our roadmap, which is packed with features we plan to roll out over time.
@Pras – Stay tuned, we expect to bring Yahoo! Buzz out of beta in the coming months.

@Tapan – Is JavaScript-less publisher code possible at the moment? Can you please post that in this space? Thank you.

Yahoo, for me, has always been a more user friendly search engine. I’m excited about the “Buzz” as I believe it will help me keep in contact with clients and make lots of new friends. Good Job Yahoo Guys:)

Another nice way for small business Internet marketing. The problem that most small businesses share at the beginning seems to be the same all over the world. The business gets started, everything is in place and no customer in sight even with the use of binoculars. What most people seem to forget when they start a new business seems to be the advertising! And when the last paint stroke is done in the new shop, mostly there is no money anymore for advertising because we simply forgot to calculate it! Sounds familiar? Yeah anybody who is busy with Internet marketing knows the story in one way or the other. Yahoo Buzz is another way to advertise a small business without having to pay for it. And since Yahoo still is the #1 source for Internet traffic it’s a good place to be present.
