Weekly Yahoo! Search Trends – September 17, 2010
Each week Yahoo! brings the most interesting and quirky trends to the forefront and Web Trend Expert Pam Woon highlights them on local and national broadcast. This week Lady Gaga’s meat dress, the superbug and how to do laundry are on searchers minds. Check out the weekly video from ABC News

Trend: The Superbug
Search trends are a good indicator of what people are interested in right now. And right now, people are looking for bugs, not the ‘creepy crawly’ ones but the ‘make you sick’ kind of bugs. Searches for a new drug resistant superbug are off the charts this week on Yahoo! following reports of a new strain of bacteria called NDM1. This bug has already made people sick in the US. People are turning to Yahoo! to search for information about the bug including where people have been infected and what they can do to be prepared. We are also seeing a huge increase in searches for the common flu, interest in flu vaccines is up more than 800%this week.

Trend: How To Do Laundry
For new college students who are learning to deal with being away from home for the first time, there is a lot of interest on Yahoo! for “how to do laundry” and “how to write a check.” Some are even turning to the web to watch videos on these topics. There are tons of videos that walk you through, step by step. This is a trend that spikes in Yahoo! Search every September!

Check out the video for more trends spiking this week and if you are in Los Angeles, New York, Sacramento or Atlanta, catch us live on Fridays!
