Each week Yahoo! brings the most interesting and quirky trends to the forefront and Web Trend Expert Pam Woon highlights them on local and national broadcast. Extraterrestrials, UFO’s and some of Rock n’ Roll’s geniuses are bubbling to the top of the Yahoo! Search engine. Check out the weekly video from ABC News.

Trend: Alien Ambassador
Two reports about extraterrestrials have set the search world on fire. Early this week, media reports out of London suggested the United Nations would name a ‘point person’  to coordinate any official contact between humans and aliens. Searches immediately started spiking on Yahoo! for that person, Dr. Mazlan Othmon, the head of the UN office for Outer Space affairs. Othman’s office apparently keeps an eye on satellites and “space junk”. But things got interesting when Othman agreed to be a panelist at an upcoming scientific conference on extra-terrestrial life. Later this week Othman commented on the reported UN appointment saying “it sounds really cool, but I have to deny it.” It will be interesting to see where the conversation goes after the conference next week. All of this alien chatter has caused searches for “aliens” to spike 17% on Yahoo!.

Trend: UFO Buzz
And there’s another reason UFO’s are buzzing online right now. A number of retired air force officers came forward at a news conference in Washington, DC this week, to say they witnessed UFO’s monitoring and tampering with nukes over the past 60 years. The news conversece was organized by UFO researcher and author Robert Hastings, who wrote a book called “UFO’s and nukes.” It sent searches for “UFO pictures” soaring 120%

Trend: Lets Rock!
Now onto the world of music, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees have been announced. This year there are 15 nominees, from rock to rap, Alice Cooper to the Beastie Boys, Donna Summer to Doctor John. About half a dozen will be inducted into the hall in March. You know we like to do projections at Yahoo! based on our search data – and if the trends are an indicator - Bon Jovi is the odds on favorite. He’s getting three times the number of search hits over number two, LL-Cool-J.

Check out the video for more trends spiking this week and if you are in Los Angeles, New York, Sacramento or Atlanta, catch us live on Fridays!
