Weekly Yahoo! Search Trends – November 5, 2010

Each week Yahoo! brings the most interesting and quirky trends to the forefront. Web Trend Expert Pam Woon highlights these trends on local and national broadcast. This week searchers are interested in the “what’s next” post elections, other search spikes include preparation for the holiday shopping season, and Daylight Saving Time. Trend: Post Election Questions
With elections this week, there are a lot of searches for “now what?” Questions like, “what is the GOP” are up 560% this week.   Other questions like what exactly is the Tea Party?  And who’s running the House?  With Nancy Pelosi out, and John Boehner in as speaker, searches for Boehner are up 557%. 83% of the people who took part in the Ask American campaign say the newly elected congress is headed for gridlock. 68% believe that the government needs to do more to reign in Wall Street.

Trend: Holiday Shopping Prep

Now, the economy may have played a big part in the elections, but how will it affect holiday shopping? The hunt for a bargain has begun online. Searches on black Friday sales are up 272% this week, and we have seen a boom in searches related to early online shopping. The top toy being searched?  Well, Fisher Price has a modern take on the old train set.  Searches for the Fisher Price  Geotrax Train set are  – up 5,900%. Trend: When Is Daylight Saving Time

On Sunday, set those clocks back one hour, and go ahead, give yourselves some extra sleep. Searches are up 1,257% on Daylight Saving Time – searches include questions on when it is, whether we gain or lose an hour, and where it’s observed – places like Hawai’i and Arizona don’t set their clocks back.
