Weekly Yahoo! Search Trends
Each week Yahoo! brings the most interesting and quirky trends to the forefront. Web Trends Expert Pamela Woon highlights these trends on local and national television broadcast. This week she went on special assignment to the Country Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee.
Trend: Country Music Hits The Mainstream
Searches on Yahoo! for Country Music have been spiking over the past year. Searchers are interested in everything from the music and lyrics to the stars and couples. This week Yahoo! was in Nashville for the 44th Annual Country Music Association Awards and captured all of the hype. As far as the awards go, the night belonged to the new reigning king and queen of country, Miranda Lambert and fiancé Blake Shelton. Together they brought home five trophies. Lambert told Yahoo! "If I'm not already living right, I'd better start, because something good is going on here." She also told Yahoo! she doesn't encourage young girls to get tattoos, because their dads would be pissed. This after she learned her tattoos are one of the things people search most about her on Yahoo!.
After years of paying his dues, and waiting patiently for his turn, Brad Paisley finally got his well-deserved Entertainer of the Year Award. Paisley told Yahoo! "It's the first trophy I will keep at home, because there are only 44 of these in the world." When he learned people search on Yahoo! more for information about his wife, than him, Paisley said "that shows people are rational, because there's really nothing interesting to search for about me," but that may change now that he has country music's highest honor on his mantle.
After digging through Yahoo! Search data before the award show, Yahoo! projected Lady Antebellum would have a big night at the CMAs. The group missed out on Entertainer of the Year and Album of the Year, but they did pick up trophies for single of the year and vocal group of the year.
On the black carpet before the show, Yahoo! purple turned out to be the new black. One after another, the biggest names in country strolled into the Bridgestone Arena wearing purple. In fact, when members of the purple clad Rascal Flatts saw Yahoo!'s Pamela Woon in her purple gown, they said they'd found their new female member, who was the missing piece that would allow them to take on Lady Antebellum for vocal group of the year, then they all yodeled!
