Weekly Yahoo! Search Trends – November 19, 2010
Each week Yahoo! brings the most interesting and quirky trends to the forefront. Web Trend Expert Pam Woon highlights these trends on local and national broadcast. This week searchers are falling in love with the news of Prince William’s engagement to Kate Middleton, getting excited about the return of Harry Potter to theaters and preparing for the big TURKEY DAY! Check out the weekly video from The Daily Buzz.
Trend: Love Is In The Air
The online world is a buzz, clamoring to find every detail about the next royal wedding. And love is in the air. Everyone’s getting engaged! From Jessica Simpson, her ex-Nick Lachey, and even Kellie Pickler whose searches are up 5,600%. But five of the top ten searches this week on Yahoo! are related to the royal engagement. Yahoo UK is reporting unprecedented numbers on Prince William and especially on his bride to be Kate Middleton. Searches for Middleton went up an astonishing 20,000% in the first 24 hours after the engagement announcement. Even searches for her parents’ party business shot up, way up, 1,850% in the UK. Speaking of a little bling, searches for engagement rings usually spike in November and December on Yahoo! as people prepare to propose, but this week it’s through the roof. Searches for replicas of Kate’s engagement ring are off the charts. Obviously a sentimental favorite, since it was the sapphire and diamond ring Princess Diana received from Prince Charles. A vast majority of all these searches for engagement rings are from the ladies.
Trend: Harry Potter Returns
The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is buzzing as Yahoo! as fans prepare for the new Harry Potter movie which arrives in theaters today. Harry potter is back again, and searches are up 13,000%. Star Emma watson is the most searched of the starring trio… up 5300% this week, lots of people searching for pics of her new hairdo.
Trend: Turkey
It’s almost thanksgiving and that means Yahoo! searchers are talkin’ turkey. “How to cook a turkey” searches are up 385% this week, about two out of three searches from women. And up 571% the search “how to deep-fry a turkey” – two out of three of those are from men. Also huge numbers for “turducken” up 766% this week. Any guesses what that is? Well, it’s a little of everything – it’s de-boned chicken stuffed into a de-boned duck, then stuffed into a de-boned turkey. Yum!
