Yahoo! aggregates the billions of searches performed across Yahoo! properties to give the pulse on what people are thinking and talking about. Searches represent the people, an instant poll every moment of the day, looking into the fleeting moods and entrenched attitudes of Internet users across the world. Each week Yahoo! Web Life Editor Heather Cabot these trends on local and national broadcast. Trouble in Greece, Bachmann’s misinformation, a royal visit and Independence day are all buzzing this week on Yahoo!

Rupert Murdoch & News Of The World
The scandal rapidly engulfing Rupert Murdoch and his media empire riveted Yahoo! users this week.  Searches for Murdoch are up more than 18,000% as News Corp abandoned its multibillion dollar bid to buy British Satellite broadcaster BskyB.  The Web has been buzzing for more than a week about Murdoch ever since the allegations of hacking and bribery by employees of the British Tabloid “News of the World” surfaced and Murdoch shut down the 168-year-old paper.  Lookups on Yahoo! for “rebekah brooks,” the embattled former editor of the publication shot up in the wake of the British Prime Minister’s call for her resignation and the announcement of a public inquiry.

Harry Potter Flies Into Theaters
As the culmination of Harry Potter’s decade long struggle with Lord Voldermat hits theaters this week, online searches for "the wizarding world of harry potter" are spiking 4,506% this month on Yahoo!. As part two of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" opens to global hysteria, people are heading online to prepare for the end and searches are up 256% on Yahoo! by those seeking “lists of harry potter movies in order,” while others want to create their own magic are searching for “harry potter costumes” and “harry potter wand.

  1. Emma Watson
  2. Daniel Radcliffe
  3. Robert Pattinson
  4. Rupert Grint
  5. Bonnie Wright

Emmy Nominations
With the Emmy Nominees announced today, we were curious to see which shows were buzzing most this week on Yahoo!. According to Yahoo!, Game of Thrones takes the lead in searches this month in the nominations for best drama series, followed by Friday Night Lights. So You Think You Can Dance takes the search buzz in the Outstanding Reality Competition Program category, followed by American Idol. Glee leads the search pack in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, followed by The Big Bang Theory.

According to Yahoo!, the top searched shows this month in the Outstanding Comedy Series category are:

  1. "Glee"
  2. "The Big Bang Theory"
  3. The Office
  4. Modern Family
  5. "Parks and Recreation"
  6. 30 Rock

According to Yahoo!, the top searched shows this month in the Drama Series category are:

  1. Game of Thrones
  2. Friday Night LightsDexter
  3. Dexter
  4. Mad Men
  5. Boardwalk Empire
  6. The Good Wife
