Ford invites you to mess with the perfection of its new Mustang, courtesy of a first-of-its-kind custom Homepage takeover
Care to watch a muscle car in an equally muscular display ad leave skid marks all over the Yahoo! Homepage in a way never done before? Look no further than the custom takeover that Ford ran on Halloween for its spookily slick line of new Mustangs.
As part of its “Dream it. Build it. Battle it.” campaign, this Homepage ad invites users to customize their very own ‘Stangs via a truly unique floating cinematic experience never before seen on the Yahoo! Homepage, or any other page. Upon landing on the page, it flips open to reveal a stretch of sun-baked asphalt as the Mustang burns rubber while other Mustangs observe respectfully from the sides.
The ‘Stang then zooms off screen to let the Homepage return to normal, and offers two opportunities to take the cool experience from mere cinematic to rich and interactive: A 350 x 300 panel on the right side is paired with a 400 x 50 ad in the center of the page, both inviting users to customize their own Mustangs.
Users can build out their dream Mustangs, choosing everything from the color, body kit and spoiler to wheels, stripe and decal. What’s more, the design can be transferred to Ford’s site to unlock additional customization awesomeness.
Taken together, this custom takeover is a truly special, integrated experience, both for the user and the advertiser.
Don’t be shy. Hop into the driver’s seat and take a spin.
