What would it mean to view disabilities a little differently?
That was a premise of Independence 2011, a lively and colorful event hosted by Yahoo! at our Sunnyvale headquarters. The bustling festival had a simple goal: to open eyes to the reality of disability—which is often different from the stereotypes we have in our minds.
With tents sprawled across the Yahoo! green, Independence 2011 featured a host of unique activities for the Yahoo! community to experience cutting-edge accessibility technologies—and to have a lot of fun! Crowds gathered at events like wheelchair basketball, “Cooking without Looking” (how to cook when you can’t see), and live demos of products from Yahoo!’s Accessibility Lab, among other tools. A special concert featured No End in Sight, a band with seeing-impaired members led by our very own Yahoo Victor Tsaran.
Here’s a snapshot of the event through video and pictures.
